I had traveled to Erfurt at a strange, meaningless time of year. Although my instincts tell me that it must have been one of those grey, cool weeks in October or November, my notes do not indicate that I went there during the autumn season. It could just as easily have been the dreary days in late February or early March. I simply can't remember.

What I do remember was gusty wind that blew through the alleyways of the old town, the humid air, just not wet enough to speak of a drizzle. The sadness of closed, derelict retail shops and the sheer absence of life that accompanied me on my way from the train station to the hotel.

What I did not anticipate and I still cannot quite explain is how this visit to an otherwise unfamiliar city led to an obsession, a daydream-turned-nightmare, an unrelenting urge to explore, the result of which is this first selection of pieces of music gathering the fragments of an urban whisper, a figure whose troubles and dreams would otherwise be lost in the crashing waves of time.

This is the story of Kommissar Brenkstrupp and his strange investigations in the underworld of Erfurt (1978-1983), coming in the form of two mini-EPs (The Detective (I) and (II)) to be released in early 2022; and a full-length LP later this year.

This is a project close to my heart that I started to work on several years ago, and I am thrilled to share it with you.
